An Artist's  Prayer

J u l i a   C a m e r o n

Oh, Great Creator,

We are gathered together in your name, that we may be of greater service to you and to our fellows.

We offer ourselves to you as an instrument.

We surrender to you our old ideas.

We welcome your new and more expansive ideas.

We trust that you will lead us.

We trust that it is safe to follow you.

We know you created us and that creativity is your nature and our own.

We ask you to unfold our lives according to your plan, not our own self-worth.

Help us to believe that it is not to late, and that we are not to small or too flawed to be healed - by you and through each other - and made whole.

Help us to love one another, to nurture each others unfoldings. To encourage each others growth, and understand each others fears.

Help us to know that we are not alone. That we are loved and lovable.

Help us to create as an act of worship to you.

Amen

The spirit lives in each of us. To know that is a blessing, providing a welcome harbor for every soul.

To be quiet, to listen, to feel the eternal self is the foundation of creativity and enlightenment. No matter the distractions of the world, the calm within the storm is always present in our lives, waiting to embrace us - if we will only let it. So gentle, so soothing, like the wind against the nape of your neck. Surrender to its siren caress, and your spirit will be transported to a place where dreams manifest and time holds no sway.

For me, this journey begins each time I pick up a brush and begin to apply oil paint to canvas. Painting is very emotional and intense, and to accomplish the work my spirit feels compelled to do, I must first clear a space in myself. Only then can I begin to paint.

Jabbing, stroking, finessing the brush, the vibrations of my very body are transferred to blank canvas. What materializes from that void sometimes surprises me, but its creation is always a true expression of my heart.

But, the Spirit is the source.

Sincerely,
